TransforMED, Leader in Transformation to the Patient-Centered Medical Home Model of Care, Announces Retirement of President and CEO
LEAWOOD, Kan. –The Board of Managers for TransforMED, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the American Academy of Family Physicians, today announced the retirement of its president and CEO, Terry McGeeney, MD, MBA.
McGeeney has served as the company's CEO since its founding in 2005, and has led the company successfully in its mission of providing ongoing consultation and support to physicians looking to transform their practices to the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) model of care. Assisting nearly 8,000 practices throughout the United States in becoming PCMHs, TransforMED, under McGeeney's leadership, has proven that this model of care lowers costs to the health care system while improving care for patients.
"We are enormously grateful to Dr. McGeeney for his conceptual skills in developing patient-centered medical homes, and helping physicians throughout the nation implement this promising concept," says William D. Soper, MD, MBA, TransforMED executive board chairman. "As an entrepreneur, Dr. McGeeney has firmly grounded the company and staked its claim as the premier agent of change for medical practice and organization transformation. It's now time to build on that strong foundation as we move to support and assist other entities as they recognize the benefits of the PCMH."
"The American Academy of Family Physicians and its 105,900 members are extremely pleased with the many accomplishments Dr. McGeeney and TransforMED have made in promoting the essential role of the primary care physician in the modern, and often shifting, American health care system," says Glen Stream, MD, MBI, AAFP board chair. "He has given steady leadership to both TransforMED and others grappling to provide the highest quality and most cost effective patient care. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
"It has been my profound pleasure to start with the seed of an idea that was TransforMED and build it to be the preeminent change facilitator for practices to the patient-centered medical home," says McGeeney. "I have been honored to work with an outstanding group of people as well as organizations and agencies — all striving to provide the patient with the best medical outcomes possible at the least cost to our health care system. It's with pride and a great sense of accomplishment that I step down from TransforMED."
The TransforMED Board of Managers also announced the appointment of Bruce Bagley, MD, as interim president and CEO. Bagley most recently served as the medical director for quality improvement for both the American Academy of Family Physicians and TransforMED. Bagley has a long history of leadership with the AAFP, and has been an effective national advocate for the importance of primary care as the foundation of a redesigned U.S. health care system.
